Herwig++ is a completely new event generator, written in C++. It is
build on the experience collected with the well-known event generator
HERWIG.
The aim is to provide a multi purpose event generator with similar or
improved capabilities (like angular ordered parton evolution and the
cluster hadronization model). At some point the ongoing development
of the Fortran version will terminate and Herwig++ is supposed to take
over. Parts of the program rely heavily on ThePEG and CLHEP.
Furthermore we tested interfaced use of matrix elements from the
program AMEGIC++/SHERPA.
You have to install the required packages
CLHEP and
ThePEG in order to compile
and run Herwig++. We recommend to update these as frequent as you
update Herwig++ as at least ThePEG is in a similarly state of intense
development as Herwig++ is. Furhtermore you should install the latest
possible compiler (gcc 3.0.y generally does the job but in case you
have problems you may wish to install the latest stable version
directly from gnu.org, recent version
as I update this is 3.4.3).
Herwig++ 1.0 is the latest
version (20 Nov 2003). Please follow the links above to obtain CLHEP,
ThePEG and a decent C++ compiler.
