Travel

Cambridge is easily reached by train and from all London Airports (see the Travel section). Emmanuel College is a short (10-15 minute) walk to train station. For those arriving by coach, Cambridge bus station is just round the corner from Emmanuel. Once you have arrived it is easy to get around Cambridge on foot. Travelling to and around Cambridge by car can be difficult (due to excess traffic and a highly logical one-way system).

Accommodation If you wish to stay overnight you are advised to book as early as possible.
You will need to book your own accommodation. The are four options:

  • Hotel : there are a number of centrally located hotels within easy walking distance of Emmanuel College (listed below). All the hotels I contacted have availability at the moment (as of 23/9//2003) but many will get booked up. I would strongly advise you to reserve your accommodation as soon as possible. All the hotels listed below are within easy walking distance of Emmanuel College.

  • Guest Houses: basic versions of hotels but lacking restaurant/bar facilities. All the Guest Houses listed below are within a reasonable walking distance of Emmanuel College. Not all rooms have en suite facilities - so always ask regarding toilet/shower/bath !

  • Bed and Breakfast (B&Bs): essentially single self-contained rooms in the owners home. Usually good value. Not all rooms have en suite facilities - so always ask regarding toilet/shower/bath !

A list of hotels/guest houses and B&Bs which are near to Emmanuel College can be found on the accommodation page.

Weather

It is difficult to predict the weather in Cambridge in January but as a rough guide:

  • Typical daytime temperatures are 0-10oC
  • It rarely snows (1 or days a year) but when it does everything grinds to a halt
  • Cambridge is one of the driest places in the UK - but be prepared for rain
