For the last week have been pestered by

cvs [diff aborted]: Failed to create temporary file: No such file or directory

which eventually turned out to be because CVS pays attention to $TMPDIR which in my case (I know not why) happened to point to a non-existant directory. Solution, unset $TMPDIR or create the dir it points to.
