Dear Colleagues, The Particle Physics Advisory Panel (PPAP) has been charged by STFC with developing a particle physics science roadmap. The Particle Physics, Astronomy and Nuclear Physics Panel (PPAN) has asked PPAP to prepare a first draft of the roadmap by September of 2009. Accordingly, and after consultation at the Oxford Town Meeting in April, and subsequently with all PP grant holders, we announced a community review, to be held in Birmingham on July 13,14,15, to which ALL MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY, are invited to make input. We are grateful to the Birmingham group for agreeing to host, and we will be announcing practical details for the meeting quite soon. The sessions each day will run from c. 10.30 until no later than 18.00. We have set up a framework for the review which attempts to cover all aspects of particle physics across the 3 days: July 13: 'flavour-changing physics and QCD' July 14: 'energy frontier physics' July 15: 'neutrino and non-accelerator-based physics' and we hope that individuals and groups will be able to attend for several, if not all, of the days, so that the full spectrum of opportunities, community interests and views can be explored. To help organise the framework of presentations and discussion issues for each day we have invited 'programme committees' who are now working on the agenda. The members of these groups are listed below - we are very grateful to everyone for giving up their valuable time to help. The format for each day will comprise a small number of 'review' talks to cover physics, experiment + theory, facilities + detectors, new opportunities, etc. There will be generous discussion time scheduled, and specific discussion of key questions and issues in each area. Please feel free to contact the programme committee chairs if there are particular issues you want to explore. To help facilitate this we will set up a simple wiki-style web area where people will be able to submit questions/issues for open discussion. We will announce the web area, programme details, and practical information within the next couple of weeks. Please plan to contribute to the review! best wishes, Phil Burrows (for the PPAP) http://www.hep.phy.cam.ac.uk/~thomson/ppap.html Membership of 'programme committees' for review meeting: ( we are still awaiting confirmation from a couple of people not listed below) 'Flavour-changing physics + QCD' Nigel Glover (IPPP) - Chair Tim Gershon (Warwick) - Deputy Christine Davies (Glasgow) Guy Wilkinson (Oxford) Cristina Lazzeroni (Birmingham) Val Gibson (Cambridge) Steve Playfer (Edinburgh) Chris Sachrajda (Southampton) Maria Smizanska (Lancaster) 'Energy frontier physics' Claire Shepherd-Themistocleous (RAL) - Chair Cinzia da Via (Manchester) - Deputy Dan Tovey (Sheffield) Grahame Blair (RHUL) Craig Buttar (Glasgow) Terry Wyatt (Manchester) Dave Newbold (Bristol) Georg Weiglein (IPPP) Rob Edgecock (RAL) Paul Newman (Birmingham) 'Neutrino and non-accelerator-based physics' Mark Thomson (Cambridge) - Chair Phil Burrows (Oxford) - Deputy Neil Spooner (Sheffield) Simon Peeters (Sussex) Reuben Sakyan (UCL) Ken Long (IC) Silvia Pascoli (IPPP) Subir Sarkar (Oxford) Christos Touramanis (Liverpool) Paul Harrison (Warwick) Ed Hinds (IC)
