INTRODUCTION:
The USB_Jig was conceived as a convenient way of driving an Atlas Links
TX PlugIn (as used in the Back-Of-Crate or BOC module of the SCT and Pixel
sub-detectors). It was originally used in conjunction with a CCD camera to look
at the near-field emission of the lasers. It has since become key both in the
testing of individual TXs driven from a PC, and in PC-less burn-in tests where
maybe 20 TXs need to be run in one set-up. It has been through a number of
design iterations that have added new functionality: these have been named
Cam_Jig, Ujig2, UJig3 and UJig4. Of these, all but the first are supported by a
PC based Windows program named USB_Jig Toolbox (UJT for short).

Alert (2011-07-26): Clock Line Pull-Downs
- while commissioning UJig4 it was discovered that the pull-down resistors
on the PECL clock lines feeding the BPM on the TX PlugIn had been omitted on
all earlier UJig PCBs. Surprisingly, this does not seem to have prevented them
from working in all but the most demanding applications. It is, however,
recommended that this be put right.
- luckily the missing components can be added relatively easily using
basic surface-mount rework facilities.
- either: send back your UJig3s and Ujig2s to Cambridge and we will quickly fix
and return them
- or: do the work yourself: detailed in FixItYourself

FirmWare release 2002
allows UJig3 to be used in stand-alone mode (i.e. without a USB connection to a
host PC)
UJIG3_FW2002.zip
has the binary .OMF files for all 15 UJig3s plus the .EXE file for the Host
program.
USB_Jig3
is released mid December:
-
batch of 15 made, 10 of
them sent to CERN for TX lifetime studies
-
allow stream data control
by software (rather than switches)
-
Read-Write of BPM
registers
-
improved interface to BPM
-
reports HW_SN as 30ss,
where ss is the serial number
-
reports FirmWare as vvss,
where vv is the version, and ss the sub-version: initially 2001
New release of Host
software supports the new features (UJig3.exe): recognises UJig3, and adjusts
accordingly
