How to find the Cavendish Laboratory

Travelling By Air

The various airports you might be likely to use to get to and from Cambridge are listed below, with links to their web sites.

London Stansted Airport

The closest of the London airports is Stansted. There are a limited number of cities with flights to Stansted, which at the moment does not include any flights to or from Geneva with EasyJet. (Until recently there was a single flight a day, which may possibly resume at some stage. Interested parties should check the current status.) Buses run approximately hourly to Cambridge, taking about 45 minutes. There is also a train service from Stansted Airport Station to Cambridge, taking about 30 minutes.

London City Airport

There are also a limited number of cities with flights to London City Airport, on the eastern side of London. A direct scheduled service from Geneva is operated by Swiss International Air Lines. The Docklands Light Railway runs between City Airport and Bank Underground Station (a journey of approximately 22 minutes) for Underground connections to Kings Cross Rail Station, from where there are trains to Cambridge. There is also a DLR service to Canning Town (journey time 8 minutes) from where you can take the Underground into central London.

London Luton Airport

London Luton Airport also has services from a limited range of cities. However, it is especially well served by EasyJet from Geneva. There is a bus service roughly every two hours between 7:30am and 11:30pm from the airport to Cambridge (outside these times services are less frequent).

London Heathrow Airport and London Gatwick Airport

Heathrow and Gatwick airports are both served by hourly buses to Cambridge. The scheduled journey time is about two hours from Heathrow and three hours from Gatwick. Because of heavy traffic around London, the actual departure times of these buses are sometimes very different to the times listed in the timetable. You just have to locate the correct bus stop and then wait for one to come. There is also a direct train service from Gatwick to St Pancras station, London. From there you can walk across the road to King's Cross station where there are regular trains to Cambridge. Alternatively, you can take the underground from Heathrow or a train from Gatwick to central London, and then a train to Cambridge. Either train or bus takes about the same time to get to Cambridge.

Cambridge City Airport

Cambridge City Airport has only limited scheduled services (which does not include Oxford any more!).
